Many people confuse coaching with counselling/therapy or mentoring and can often use the terms interchangeably. While all these practices revolve themselves around personal development, However, where each practice differs is in terms of scope and methodology.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines counselling as “professional guidance of the individual by utilising psychological methods, especially in collecting case history data, using various techniques of the personal interview, and testing interests and aptitudes.” Hence, counselling involves a more emotions-based, problem-specific evaluation of one’s history to provide specific and appropriate guidance. In counselling you and your counsellor spend time examining your past, evaluating how it affects your present behaviour, responses, perspectives, and actions. Through the counselling process, you attempt to work through and heal past trauma and issues to provide mental and emotional well-being in the present.
Numerous people who have been through counselling or therapy often realise that they need a practical approach to apply all the knowledge and understanding that they have accumulated over time. They want to figure out ways to effectively structure their lives, work out their purpose and what they want to achieve with their lives.
